Gold & Black Panel for Your Dreamed Circle Skirt

Grab a chance to wear self-made circle skirt during the Xmas Dinner.

With this gold and black panel fabric it will be a piece of cake for you. I have just listed it in my RPT Couture shop on Etsy.

circel skirt, gold, black, sewcialist, couture, handmade, sewcialists,

You could ease pair it with a simple black top for retro look.
The panel is 180 cm wide and 180 cm long. You may make 1 circle skirt or 2 half-circle skirts. The choice is yours!

The fabric is viscose/polyester in gold with velvet like black pattern.
Don’t wait too long – there is only one piece available.

Making a circle skirt is easy. The only measurement you need to know is your waist circumference (c).

With this panel you already have outer circle marked – which you can always adjust.

To proceed further you have to calculate a radius (r) using the formula:

r = c / 2π

r = radius
c = circumference (circle circumference = the waist circumference)
π = 3,14 (constant number)

After calculating the radius, you have to measure it from the center of the circle to its edge.

The length of the skirt you then measure from the waist (the circle edge) to the outer edge.

You may as well follow the pattern making waist opening bigger and adjust it to your measurements by nice elastic band.

If you have no time for calculation you may use this simple pattern I have found out on What A Craft.

Dont forget to cut a waist band and keep in mind the seam allowances.

Good luck!

Last day in Poland

Two weeks gone and it is time to go back home. My last day by my mom was busy – last activity  – windows cleaning.

Of course before you start to clean you have to make a space: take out the curtains, plants in flowerpots … and then I came across a box with so many memories. It was the box full of old documents and pictures. I started to browse through it immediately. So many treasuries.

I wrote about cleaning of my mom’s wardrobe and garments I made for her. Today I came across a picture of my mother wearing this summer jacket and skirt (btw. I have made this silk top as well).

She was wearing it at her last day at work and many times during her retirement.

It is time to make for her new garments.

Today is a travel day – I hope there will be dry and no traffic jams.

An outfit for a Holiday season

Do you have a special outfit for this Holiday season? I did not manage to make one – again. Since few years I am planning to make a special outfit for Christmas/New Year – maybe I should start planning and making earlier?

Fortunately I am not alone. Janene from ooobop is straggling with the same issue. At least she has made a great circle skirt.

I have fabrics in my stash, I have patterns in my stash waiting – somehow I am busy with other things at the end of the year and never have time.

Maybe between Xmas and New Year I will try to fix at least one easy outfit – having few days off could help.

I have the dark blue stretch polyester velvet –

– which I could transfer into this the Vogue dress 1374

MMM 2013 and my business trip

For the fist time I was packing for my business trip with greater concentration then usually.

I had to take into account not only number of days, the weather, meetings, dinners, social activities but the Me-Made-May 2013 challenge as well.

Herewith a summary of my MMM2013 wardrobe during this trip.
Additionally I had to remember to take pictures. They are not so good – taken by phone in a hotel room at the mirror … But here they are:

Just before leaving to the airport 9th May – I am wearing my dark blue jacket (Simplicity 4991) from boiled wool and top based on Jalie pattern 2682:

D2N Top of the year

I know I am getting boring with this D2N tops but I promised to take the photos and here they are.
This top is really top of they year!

# 1 Day-To-Night Drape Top (pattern by MariaDenmark)

I did not use the elastic tape for finishing the back neck line but I used stripe of the same jersey. As you can see I have changed the finishing of armholes in this model as well.
I love working with jersey, sewing on serge – it is so easy…

The back neck line and armholes I have finished as well with the stripe of jersey only this time I turned it over and stitched.

I like both of them and I will for sure wear them often. Definitely addition to my wardrobe essentials.

Having my camera on I have taken as well photos of my other top I have made base on Vogue pattern 7799. I was posting about it here.

My skirt with high tail fits as well good and I am really glad with the final result.

Next week there is a huge fabric market – Stoffen Spektakel in Zwolle (NL) – and I am already making a list what kind of fabrics, colours, prints I would like to buy. I am very excited! I am sure there will be a lot of summer fabrics….

Results of my sewing week-end…

It  was great! Sewing weekend – it was so long ago I sew…

I faced however the serge which is still having issues with cutting the jersey fabric and my sewing machine still making loops. The maintenance did not help in both cases which means I will have to repeat it.
I thing that the broken below hook grip in my sewing machine was a result of something which is incorrect somewhere else.
I try to sew on it but probably I will be forced to buy a new sewing machine. No Husqvarna this time –I have to say I am very disappointed with this model.

Still I was determined and I have managed to finish – not one – but two Day-To-Night Drape Tops (pattern by MariaDenmark)

and one top based on KwikSew 2740 model B (OOP). I will probably need to correct the neckline – make it a little shorter so it will lay better.

On top of this I have finished a skirt.

Now I have to check if I still fit in it… as it was quite a long time I started to make it Knipogende emoticon.

I will take some more photos later – in the daylihgt.

Now it’s time for the next UFO’s!

Sunny busy weekend–no HotPot

It was nice sunny weekend. Having nice daylight I took some extra photos of few of my items on Saturday and started to update my Etsy shop. Looking for something on internet I came across website I did not visit for a long time and forgotten about it existence. It is wix.com which offer ready to use templates for websites and web shops and more.

While browsing through the offered possibilities I have noticed very nice template. I am thinking of building my own web shop for some time already so I looked around for other possibilities, I see that the price wise – it is not so expensive. I decided to give it a chance.

I have picked up a template I liked and started making my own layout. I have to say – it is very easy application, it is simple, it is WYSIWYG, you can check it directly, you can play with text, pictures, colours – GREAT. I was trying before other applications and one of the reason why I usually was giving up was the ‘back office’ of the web shop. Difficult to set-up, difficult to find the way around.

At this moment the majority of my items is added. It is live-ish – the shop part is not working yet as it is not yet upgraded to the proper level. So now I have time to time to find out if I really like it… At this moment it is still with the link to the ‘mother’ website but please be free to check and let me know what do you think about this new RPT web shop.

new webshop website Red Point Tailor

Meanwhile I designed and ordered my business cards at Vistaprint – I was overwhelmed with the possibilities.  Additionally I will receive the address stickers – very handy.

I updated my blog – clean it up. When I look around and read different blogs I have noticed I am not the only one. Definitely the spring is approaching! Spring cleaning is in the air Knipogende emoticon.

I had as well time to finish my top Day-To-Night Drape Top (pattern by MariaDenmark) – this very simple one, about which Kim-ing reminded me – she already have made a lot of them Knipogende emoticon.  And I am finishing the skirt. Maybe … maybe … I will in the end pick up this UFO dress and jacket as well. I have to admit I am glad I am back to sewing. I really miss it. It is not only the HotPot fault that I sew less. Maybe you remember …. in December my sewing machine was out off order and after it was fixed it sounds different and behaves different. I do not have confidence to sew a garment from a fabric which costs me 200 EUR. I have to test it on some cheaper fabrics – I have enough in my stash.

So now, the weekend is almost finished – back to reality!

Just a skirt – fabric stash busting

DSC_0181I have bought once this piece of fabric. It is a wool bland in white, black, grey colour. It will be fine for this colder days. It is just enough for a skirt.

I am going to make this skirt with raised waist – based on Butterick pattern B5396.

This is the same pattern I was using for making a Little Dark Blue Dress (which BTW is still waiting to be finished).

skirtThe front and back is already cut off from the fabric and I have already put the zipper in the back.

I am now busy with lining and interfacing.

This will be my weekend project. I would like to finish it so I could start working on my coat.
