It is a loose-fitting mini dress with flared hemline and diagonal-cut empire line bodice, crossed braces at the neckline and racing back – clearly inspired by a ’60s.

Marfy top 1913 in making

It was busy day. Having my Red Point Tailor shop on Etsy I may participate in different activities organised by Etsy.

In May Etsy organises ETSY school on SEO where we work on improving our shops to be better visible for search engines. I was paired with Richende, who is selling funky, modern bracelets in her shop RichBracelets.

We have got a manual where some of the exercises have to be done together, so yesterday direct after work I went to Enschede (NL) to meet Richende. It was nice to meet other Etsian and exchange experiences.

Afterwords I went to an atelier of Bas van Loo, who is making one of the garments for a BMA challenge. He would like me to make buttons to his garment. I needed a piece of a fabric to find good colour of glass. Nice challenge for me.

After coming home and taking a short break I proceeded with the Marfy 1913 top. I decided to underlined the front with very thin viscose lining – unfortunately I did not have silk china in gray. It feel and look great – much better then trico in skin colour.

Marfy top 1913

So let’s test the Marfy 1913 pattern.

Marfy Top 1913 Free Pattern

I have chosen the crepe viscose with this beautiful pattern.

The pattern pieces are cut off – I only think of cutting the front piece twice as the fabric is a little sheer.

Unless I will lined the front. I have to think of this option and check what kind of lining I have.

Ever admired the fabulous feminine Marfy patterns but never had chance to make something from its pattern?

Leslie from A Challenging Sew is planning in January a Marfy Free Pattern Sew Along using the free patterns Marfy has made available.

A Marfy Free Pattern Sew Along with Leslie from A Challenging SewSeeing this announcement reminded me about my unfinished Marfy summer dress as well as Marfy coat pattern 3177 I have purchased recently. I have to wait for the summer few months so I decided to pick up the coat project first. During the fabric market I have bought the black cashmere for it and lining. As the weather forecasts are not getting better it is hight time to make a coat.

Marfy Dress–fitting results

I inserted a zipper to the back of the muslin of the Marfy dress and put it on.

Here are the results of my first fitting session:

Marfy Dress 3069 Fitting corrections muslin

I am not so sure about the length – maybe I should made it shorter? It will drape differently in the real fabric. I think about it in the next phase.
I will have to look for nice lining as well.

The upcoming weekend will be busy – I am not so sure I will have time to follow up on this project. So far so good Glimlach

The Marfy dress pattern 3069 – A or B?

I decided to make the Marfy dress in two colours – only version A or B?

Marf y Dress 3096, Colour combination, Marfy pattern, dress, muslin

My muslin is ready and is almost the time to cut the dress from the fabric.

Personally I prefer option B – such colours combination not only looks better but fits better my figure as well.

Let’s try the muslin 🙂

Where the couture begins…

When I order a pattern usually it is taking about 2 weeks before I receive it. So ordering the Marfy pattern on Monday I was expecting it somewhere next week. And guess what? It has already arrived – so fast – wonderful!
