Still not sure which pattern to pick up for a French jacket – try this Marfy fee pattern!
There are 3 patterns to download: a jacket, a skirt and a top.
Both the jacket and the skirt are perfect for the French Jacket sew along!
I have made all alterations and I have one sleeve longer about 3 cm. I like the longer sleeves. I think for autumn and winter it will be much better. I have idea that with the longer sleeves the jacket has better proportions.
When making a jacket for summer – could be I will keep the shorter sleeves.
Looking at the original Chanel jackets I see usually 3 buttons in the sleeves – I think I will make 3 ones as well.
And it looks like there will be another jacket – the third one :-). My niece came by and tried my muslin which suited her well. So I will look for nice fabric for her :-).
In February 2013 I have joined the International Craft Swap organised by Rachel from the House of Pinheiro. I was paired with Diane Hudson from margueritedesigns. I have received from her a fabulous sewing set with space for all kind of dressmaking ‘first aid’.
As you can see I am using it and it is very handy 🙂 Thanks Diane 🙂
It was a short night as I wanted to finish as much as possible before I leave.
Short update about the Chanel-like jacket based on V8804. I managed to join all pattern pieces and have first fit.
I had to shorten it a little bit and the next to think about are sleeves.
Coming week I will be away for my work but still I would like to take some sewing work with me.
I have few fabrics I have bought to make a Chanel-like jacket. Some of them are silk with cotton or linen. I have bought as well the silk organza for interlining and silk for lining. All is set up. At least 2 fabrics will be transfer to a jacket based on a Vogue pattern 8804 by Claire Shaeffer.
The pattern pieces in size 8 (I checked the ease and I think size 8 will fit better) are already traced on paper and I marked the seam allowances, grain line, notches and all other needed marks .
As Catherine Daze on her Blog has already said the new Vogue Patterns Fall 2013 collection is missing this WOW! effect.
Still there are few patterns which attract my attention.
From dresses these 3 patterns:
V1361 Misses’ Dress – Close-fitting, lined, mock wrap, pullover dress with collar, neckline, front and back (bias) tucks, overlapped and stitched left front, right side front and back seams, no side seams, and sleeves with stitched hems and cuffs hand tacked and fold-back.
I love the cut and the lines of the darts. I love the colour as well.
V1362 Misses’ Dress – MISSES’ DRESS: Semi-fitted, lined dress has interfaced, bias upper front (hand tacked to form drape effect), left side pleats, front stay, and invisible back zipper and hemline slit.
I like the neckline in this dress and the colour of the fabric.
V8923 Misses’ Dress – Fitted dress has seam detail, stitched hem and back zipper – with variations.
This is a simple dress with interesting cut.
When I am tired I know something could go wrong so I prefer to work on something easy. The muslin of Marfy dress is waiting to be disassembled so I could put all adjustments on the pattern pieces. I think I will trace patterns to keep originals untouched. Tomorrow ….
Having wonderful summer weather outside is not helping to sit inside … I see so many posts with stunning summer dresses… so it is time to prepare for new dresses.
I have checked my patterns stash and I have ascertained that I have few summer patterns already traced and ready to be turn to dresses
Some of the upcoming projects (to bust some fabrics and patterns):
It will be a long project… at this moment I have finished a muslin and forced my DH to have the first very quick fit. Since few years I am planning to make him a jacket, well he requested one. I have bought this Burda 8135 man’s jacket pattern long ago – for extra tall figure. I already know I will have to make few adjustments, e.g. shorten the sleeves, ‘full tummy’ adjustment.
A year ago I have bought the eco canvas from bamboo and linen in red. For lining I will use cotton batiste or this nice red cotton fabric in shells
For the fist time I was packing for my business trip with greater concentration then usually.
I had to take into account not only number of days, the weather, meetings, dinners, social activities but the Me-Made-May 2013 challenge as well.
Herewith a summary of my MMM2013 wardrobe during this trip.
Additionally I had to remember to take pictures. They are not so good – taken by phone in a hotel room at the mirror … But here they are:
To finish my sewing weekend I have made this very simple jacket. I have bought once a small piece of boiled wool – 1,20 cm. I had few ideas about the jacket I wanted to make.
Of course having so many patterns it is not so easy to choose. Together with the fabric I put aside a patterns but then I came across this Simplicity 4991 in my pattern stash, which includes VERY simple, strait jacket.
I have squeezed the pattern pieces on the fabric and I even had left small piece to make pockets.
