Just imagine this gold & black fabric with black velvet lining and sleaves. It would be very interesting – and for sure unique.

So… don’t wait too long. There is only one panel available in my RPT Couture shop on Etsy

Gold & Black Panel for Your Dreamed Circle Skirt

Grab a chance to wear self-made circle skirt during the Xmas Dinner.

With this gold and black panel fabric it will be a piece of cake for you. I have just listed it in my RPT Couture shop on Etsy.

circel skirt, gold, black, sewcialist, couture, handmade, sewcialists,

You could ease pair it with a simple black top for retro look.
The panel is 180 cm wide and 180 cm long. You may make 1 circle skirt or 2 half-circle skirts. The choice is yours!

The fabric is viscose/polyester in gold with velvet like black pattern.
Don’t wait too long – there is only one piece available.

Making a circle skirt is easy. The only measurement you need to know is your waist circumference (c).

With this panel you already have outer circle marked – which you can always adjust.

To proceed further you have to calculate a radius (r) using the formula:

r = c / 2π

r = radius
c = circumference (circle circumference = the waist circumference)
π = 3,14 (constant number)

After calculating the radius, you have to measure it from the center of the circle to its edge.

The length of the skirt you then measure from the waist (the circle edge) to the outer edge.

You may as well follow the pattern making waist opening bigger and adjust it to your measurements by nice elastic band.

If you have no time for calculation you may use this simple pattern I have found out on What A Craft.

Dont forget to cut a waist band and keep in mind the seam allowances.

Good luck!

DYI Project #2

The inner pocket is installed! I am glad with the final result. My DH is running a lot of projects in Africa and I managed to have Africa at the top.

DYI project by Red Point Tailor, suitcase pocket

I liked working on something different than garments so having still my sewing machine set up with heavy duty threads I decided to make a cover for a portable printer for him as well.

Stoffenspektakel Apeldoorn

Due to all family issues I was not able to visit previous fabric markets and I was not so sure if I should go there this time – I know I could not resist fabrics.

However my DH asked me to make for him an inner pocket he could attach in the suitcase for all small things he needs during his business trips. So here I go to Stoffenspektakel (fabric market) spring edition.

I have found out these 2 fabrics – linen with prints, to use for this purpose.

Then I have seen this linen with printed cats on it – I had to buy. I will either make a jacket or dress out of it. Or other things for home. I don’t know yet.

Linton Tweeds fabrics

In the current issue of the Threads Magazine (December 2013/January 2014 Issue Number 170) there is a great article by Claire Schaeffer about the LINTON TWEEDS – The Luxury Fabrics Designers Love.

I see pictures of fabulous fabrics posted online by those who participate in the French Jacket sew-along. It happened I had a fabric in my stash to make such jacket but there are a lot of you who still is planning to make the French jacket and is asking where to buy a fabric.

One of the sources is a local fabric store, other fabric market, other online shop. Still you would like to have a quality fabric which is not always easy to access.

Linton Tweeds – renowned as suppliers to Chanel and other prestigious international fashion houses – are perfect for the French jacket. In the online shop you may browse by fabric composition, colour or type.

It is easy to order online however you still are not so sure about the colour and structure. By Linton Tweeds you may order the fabric samples of current Linton Fabrics and Wool Crepe.
