De Cirkel van Kleding – my input

De Cirkel van Kleding (Dress Circle), a conceptual artwork van Pet van de Luijtgaarden – will soon be seen at de beeldentuin (the sculpture garden) of the Kröller Müller Museum, located in National Park De Hoge Veluwe in Otterlo (NL).

The pieces for my part of the project De Cirkel van Kleding (Dress Circle) were 3 shorts, a top and a skirt.

From the shorts I have made this dress. I have added fabric from my stash for a skirt part.

The Artistic Convertible in Basel

Tonight during the EMTC – European Master Tailor Congress the International Fashion Show took place with over a hundred models from four European countries.

One of the participants is my colleague from the Branchevereniging Mode Ambachten – BMA – Anne Marie van der Veen from Zwolle (NL), with her The Artistic Convertible‘. You may read more about the technique she used to create the coat on her blog (in Dutch).

Friday Study Evening of the BMA East Region

During the Study Evening of the BMA East Region meeting Annie van de Ven and Lisette Deloo gave a workshop on a t-shirt with a knot.

All of us got a pattern – we had to send the size first – and we should take own stretch fabric.

Then I realised I have forgotten to take a fabric – it is convenient I am leaving not so far from the meeting place. I went to look for something good enough for a test garment home.

Well, I came across a pile of woven fabrics as viscose’s, silks, cottons…. no stretch. After some time, at the bottom of one of the boxes I have found a piece of a stretch cotton blend – left over from a PJ I have made for my DH.
When I placed patterns on it – it was just enough.

I did not take sewing machine or serger – too much hassle. I took a thread and needles. No broken needles this time.  I have just stitch all seams by hand.

Herewith the final result. I put it on today morning and… it is too big and I am not so sure I like this knot. I can still finish this top and give it to my mother or sister.

Study Evening of the BMA East Region

I was not able to attend the previous meeting of the BMA East Regio in April during which Ineke de Jong gave presentation on Ralph Rucci – well-known for those who use Vogue patterns.

I have few of his patterns in my collection as well.

This time during our monthly meeting Annie van de Ven and Lisette Deloo will give a workshop – we will make a ‘knopshort’. I am very curious about it.

I was suppose to take my sewing machine but I think I will keep on hand stitching. I will for sure take more than one needle …

Marfy top 1913 in making

It was busy day. Having my Red Point Tailor shop on Etsy I may participate in different activities organised by Etsy.

In May Etsy organises ETSY school on SEO where we work on improving our shops to be better visible for search engines. I was paired with Richende, who is selling funky, modern bracelets in her shop RichBracelets.

We have got a manual where some of the exercises have to be done together, so yesterday direct after work I went to Enschede (NL) to meet Richende. It was nice to meet other Etsian and exchange experiences.

Afterwords I went to an atelier of Bas van Loo, who is making one of the garments for a BMA challenge. He would like me to make buttons to his garment. I needed a piece of a fabric to find good colour of glass. Nice challenge for me.

After coming home and taking a short break I proceeded with the Marfy 1913 top. I decided to underlined the front with very thin viscose lining – unfortunately I did not have silk china in gray. It feel and look great – much better then trico in skin colour.

“British research shows that a woman holds 2,400 garments throughout her life. The circle, which takes the form of a clothesline, symbolizes the process of life from birth to death. 120 designers, artists and individuals get started with 2,400 white, pink and red garments up-cycling. Used clothing and all kinds of objects collected by the artist will become a large installation .
The Kröller-Müller Museum is attracted by the “ideology” of the project, which is a playful and accessible way the contemporary phenomenon of overconsumption raises.”

The next Technische Modevakdag during Novembeer BMA meeting

Each year during the Technische Modevakdag (Technical Fashion Day) organised by the Branchevereniging Mode Ambachten – BMA (Fashion Crafts Industry Association) each Region presents models made of the same fabrics.

In January during the Region East meeting the 2 fabrics for this challenge were presented. I did not make pictures but the fabrics are Suéde look in colour Brique and Olive green – more or less as the ones below.

Suede_look_fabric_Brique Suede_look_fabric_Groen

One of the models will be made by Gerrie Tuitert (man’s model) and another by Bas van Loo (www.basvanloo.nl) – woman’s model.

Having since 2014 additional members from the associations FeetBag it will be fantastic to have one of them to participate in this project – Marjolein Neijzen from Belleportee.
I will have small input in this project as well.

It is very exciting to work on this challenge. More will follow in due time.
