Coat – the next sewing project on the list

Some time ago I have bought a black cashmere/wool fabric for a coat. I have a dream coat on my mind with:

  • high waist
  • pleat at the back
  • collar

souds not so complicated. Meanwhile – 3-4 muslins further – I am still trying to find the best fit.

I have made muslin of a coats from Vogue V8626 and Marfy 3177. Eventhough they had features from the above list – I was not impressed. Continue reading “Coat – the next sewing project on the list”

Marfy Jacket 3350 – fabrics

While searching my fabric stash for a fabric I could use to make the jacket based on  Marfy 3350 pattern I came across these two ones.

The blue/white fabric is loose woven wool bland.

This brownish one is linen bland. It is more stiff than the above one.

Looking at the qualities and properties of both fabrics I think I will go for the blue/white one. It is softer and looking at my wardrobe – I have much more combination possibilities.

But everything depends on the amount of fabric – I have to check if I have enough of this blue/white fabric to make it the way I want.

The brownish one will become either a dress or jacket/skirt combination.

Meanwhile the book Couture Sewing: The Couture Skirt: more sewing secrets from a Chanel collector by Claire Shaeffer has arrived.  It went so fast!

Something is telling me that this will be my next project … soon.

Which one would you advice?

Another couture challenge

While waiting for Couture Sewing: The Couture Skirt: more sewing secrets from a Chanel collector by Claire Shaeffer (it should arrived within few days!)

and watching the Great British Sewing Bee (love it!) …

I decided to give the pants a break and work on my new couture challenge – Jacket by Marfy 3350. It is a short semi-fitted jacket with 3/4 sleeves that form a square yoke. I will try to make it from a boucle or tweed. I am sure I can find something in my fabric stash. Continue reading “Another couture challenge”

Marfy Top 1913

I forgot to share the Marfy blouse/top 1913 I have made this year.

This top I have worn very often this summer. It was the perfect combination with the silk skirt. I like the colours and pattern on the fabric and the style of the blouse.
I will for sure make more tops based on this pattern. I won’t be the first one – check here different version of this top made by Leisa.

I decided to order two Marfy patterns – I just could not resist. Continue reading “Marfy Top 1913”

Marfy Dress 0303 – frist steps

I have just cut all pattern pieces for the muslin of the Marfy Dress 0303 out.

Tomorrow I am going to Barneveld (NL) where the fall edition of Stoffenspektakel will take place. I will look for a nice fabric for this dress. Week later I have another chance in Apeldoorn.

There is a chance for a coffee with Marianne from Fox Gloves and Thimbles blog. She is just busy with a French Jacket ….wow!

Starting up simply with Marfy

Suddenly I have found myself browsing through the latest Marfy catalog 2014/2015 and after few minutes I have marked quite a number of pages with ideas for future projects.

Did I tell you already I love Marfy? No? – YES, I LOVE MARFY PATTERNS!

I have started with a top 3408 and a dress – 0303. Both patterns are included in the Marfy catalog as well as available in PDF format from Marfy website.

Becki has made a top based on this dress patterns and as I like the idea I am going to do the same.

So far only paper patterns are ready so let’s take the next step – muslins.

I think then I will follow on this jacket – 3350. I will order the pattern – I really like the construction.

The tube dress has a V-neck with draped crossover detail and short kimono sleeves. It can be made in crêpe, satin or satinette.

One-piece foulard cardigan has tucks on shoulders and stitching detail down side. It is very easy to make, and can be made in voile, chiffon, embroidered tulle or crêpe de chine.

Next to the instructions how to print, cut and join the pattern (you can download it here), there is the video to watch!

These two patterns are perfect for summer garden parties!
