ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY – Colours of 2016

pantone, colour of 2016, ROSE QUARTZ , SERENITY

For the first time PANTONE Colour of the Year 2016 is a bland of two shades – Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.

Spring is in the air!

The Vogue Patterns has just issue the new patterns for Spring 2015. The colours of the presented garments bright up this gray winter day.

I have few favourites and I think it will be difficult to say no to some of them.

V1435 Misses’ Jacket and Dress – I like the idea of a simple dress with this jacket. I am not so sure what I like more – the colour or the form. Nice total look – a little retro. It is getting difficult from the beginning.

V1439 Misses’ Jacket and Pants – I like this jacket … and pants. Nice combination – I have to think about it. I have for sure great fabrics in my stash to make both garments.

Welcome MARSALA -Pantone Colour of the Year 2015

Somehow I am still somewhere in October however there are some signs bringing me back to reality.

Today PANTONE introduced the Colour of the Year 2015.

The impactful, full-bodied qualities of Marsala make for an elegant, grounded statement color when used on its own or as a strong accent to many other colors.

Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.

Add elegance to any room by incorporating this rich and welcoming hue in accent pieces, accessories and paint. Marsala’s plush characteristics are enhanced when the color is applied to textured surfaces, making it an ideal choice for rugs and upholstered living room furniture.

I am looking forward to all creations in this colour! It combine so nicely with blue marine, black, red… chocolate and red wine…

Vogue Patterns Fall 2014 Collection

I know the summer is still here … well, at least when I look at the calendar, but slowly the fall is approaching. It was pleasure to watch the F/W 2014 Haute Couture collections presented in Paris – long live internet! A lot of inspirations! Following the trend the Vogue Patterns has just launched the new collection for Fall 2014, as well.

The ‘Kendra’s Night Out’ Challenge

Week ago I have got surprized e-mail from Kendra Thornton with a question if I would like to participate in the ‘Kendra’s Night Out’ Challenge. I am travelling myself and I am staying in all kind of hotels so I though – Great!

The next e-mail contained more details:

The plan is to start the evening with Sunset Service at the Top of the Standard. We will drift into our New York night with the smooth jazz stylings of that night’s entertainment, while sipping on a cocktail or two. I’ve heard amazing things about the small plate offerings here, and the idea of a swanky supper club vibe is perfect for this getaway. Just thinking about the glittering skyline makes me a bit weak in the knees. I can’t quite believe I’m on my way to a real, honest to goodness grownup adventure. It’s long overdue! The requested style is cocktail attire, but I’m at a bit of a loss. Does that mean I need a long or short dress? Can I go with a bright color, or should I stick to a tried and true little black dress? You get the point, I need your expertise.

While I’m thrilled to be heading to the Big Apple, I have to say I was a bit overwhelmed at first. There is just so much to do! Without the expert advice I received at Gogobot, I’m not sure where I would have started. The world travelers I encountered there were invaluable in building my itinerary. I’d never even heard of the Standard High Line Hotel before researching this trip, and now I ‘m staying at one of the very best hotels in this incredible city. And now I turn to you, my fashion experts, to help me look like I’m a natural New Yorker. As we all know, whether seeing a show, lounging at the Top of the Standard, or dining at a local restaurant, the right outfit can be the difference between a good night, and an experience to be treasured forever.

I decided to make two boards (actually three):

1. Good to combine essentials for travelling and the day at the city in brown and blue shades

The 'Kendra's Night Out' Challenge - board by Red Point Tailor - day in the city

2. Evening – Cocktail attire – knee length dress, smart, elegant, modest accessories.

This challenge has shown me that I still miss few garments in my wardrobe, e.g. pants – to make my own business trips more comfortable.

Count down to spring

It was strange year and the next one 2014 will not be easier – still seeing McCall’s patterns for spring make me smiling. Thinking of spring, sunny, warm, long days is what I need – these grey, short days are really nothing for me. So I started to count down to spring.

I browse through the new Early Spring McCall’s patterns collection I can say only one thing – SIPLICITY. There are not so many (maybe even not at all) new ideas.

M6883 Misses’ Dresses and Slip – using nice fabric – e.g. lace – doesn’t require complicated cut. Made of light cotton or silk it would be perfect for first spring warm days.

Haute Couture – Fashion in Detail

Visiting the exhibition ‘The Chanel Legend’ at The Gemeentemuseum Den Haag I have spotted this fascinated book ‘Haute Couture, Fashion in Detail from the 17th-20th Centuries’.
“It provides a stunning visual journey which charts haute couture through the ages with images from the exquisite collection of London’s Victoria & Albert Museum.”

'Haute Couture – Fashion in Detail'

This is just a great reference book, book full of inspirations, book full of great designs.
I have put few pictures from this book here just to give you an idea.
I am so glad I have bought this book. Continue reading “Haute Couture – Fashion in Detail”

Vogue Patterns Winter/Holiday Collection

Recently the new Vogue Patterns Winter/Holiday Collection was launched.
Well, what shall I say about them… I will start from the ones I find the most interesting.
1. V8943 – Misses’ Dress and Slip by Claire Schaeffer – beauty in its simplicity

V8943 - Misses' Dress and Slip by Claire Schaeffer

The fabric used for this dress gives this special appearance – the pattern is very simple. I think of ordering it only because I hope for few couture techniques included in the pattern description by Claire.
