Summer Top from 1950 … Almost one day project

Sometimes it is fine to make pick up a project you know it is possible to finish in one day. You feel better, you see direct the results, you can wear it next day …

Few months ago I have bought a vintage patter – Summer Top from 1950.

I decided to make View 3 – simple top with side closing with a bow.

From a pile of fabrics I picked up a cotton bland in light blue colour – the top will suite perfect for all my blue jackets and skirts.

I clean up my working place, set up my sewing machine – new sharp needle, thread in correct colour and started. The weather was not so summer like but working on this summer top gave me better feeling.

While cutting off the pieces from a fabric I have noticed I missed some pieces – well, it is the risk when buying a vintage pattern. Fortunately it was easy to replicate.

I have marked all darts and all other marks using a copy paper and were needed with tailor’s tacks.

Then I have stitched all darts and pleats and assembly all parts together.

After few hours – doing in between some usual home staff – I had majority of the work done. All open edges – armholes, neck and lower edge is finished with bias facing.

But the my ‘helping hand’ appeared – my cat Meisje – and she decided to help me.

I only managed to fixed the belt to the ends of the fronts.
Tomorrow I will have a lot of hand slip-stitching.
